About the Department

Under the guidance of the first Head of the Department (HoD), Professor H. Tischner, the initial framework of the department was formed in 1951. Mirroring the progress of the country after independence, the department of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering (E&ECE) has since grown into a Top-100* department in the world.

The E&ECE department offers programs of study leading to B.Tech, M.Tech, M.S and Ph.D degrees. The department’s academic programs are nationally and internationally recognized for its quality and excellence. The large E&ECE undergraduate and postgraduate enrolment is sustained by heavy recruitment at world-leading and renowned organisations like Google, Microsoft, Adobe, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Intel, Honeywell, IBM, Goldman Sachs, Cognizant, Tata, ISRO and many more.

The department has a vibrant research environment with world-class research groups in Communication and Signal Processing, Light wave Engineering, Microelectronics and VLSI Circuits, RF and Microwave Engineering, and Vision and Intelligent Systems. Our faculty members are leading the way in the research areas of integrated analog and digital electronics, embedded systems, nanotechnology and nanomaterials, MEMS, communication engineering, applied and computational electromagnetics, radar signal processing, optoelectronics, millimetre wave technology, wireless sensor networks, big data, image processing, computer vision, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI). The department’s research activities are constantly funded by leading Indian scientific organisations such as DST, SERB, ISRO, Indian Defence departments and also by international agencies like Nortel Networks, Hughes, Intel, Cadence, Qualcomm, etc.

Consisting of a large and diverse student base of some of the brightest young minds in the engineering field, the E&ECE department has demonstrated excellence and commitment in the areas of academics, student activities and community. Students are supported each year through fellowships, research assistantships and teaching assistantships. E&ECE students at all levels get involved in research, travel abroad for international training programs, perform community outreach and start new ventures. They also gain valuable experience through co-ops and internships.

The department has over the years churned out students of exceptional calibre who occupy or have occupied top positions in both national and international academia and industry.
